Chlorination Services

To ensure the protection of water quality and public health, it is mandatory for private supply pipes to undergo chlorination and testing prior to being connected to the water main. The chlorination of pipework is crucial for confirming its suitability and safety for delivering drinking water. The chlorination process begins with flushing the system using clean drinking water to eliminate any debris, thereby establishing a clean environment for the chlorination procedure.

After the initial flushing, the system is filled to its full capacity with a chlorinated solution (at least 50mg/l concentration), which must remain in the system for a minimum of one hour. Once this contact time is completed, our technicians neutralise the chlorinated solution and dispose of it properly, followed by another flush with clean water to eliminate any remaining chlorine residues.

Subsequently, the system is filled again with clean drinking water, which must also sit for a minimum contact period of one hour. Samples of this final flushing water will be collected for chemical and microbiological testing, and these samples will be sent to one of our laboratory partners for analysis using UKAS  approved methods.

Upon receiving the laboratory analysis results, The Drinking Water Club will issue a chlorination certificate along with a comprehensive analytical report for each sample. Typically, these results and certificates are provided within seven days of the completion of the work, ensuring that the system is confirmed safe for supplying potable drinking water. This documentation can be presented to the relevant water utility to facilitate the connection.
